The First Pillar

Rosenwald Museum

A working museum inside the restored building, dedicated to preserving and interpreting Rosenwald history and the broader story of Black education in Alabama.

  • Permanent Exhibits. The Rosenwald Fund, Booker T. Washington's influence, and the story of this specific school's founding and students.
  • Rotating Exhibits. Black history in Alabama, oral histories from alumni and descendants, artifact-based storytelling on rural education.
  • Educational Tours. Guided tours for K–12 schools, university history departments, and heritage tourism groups.
  • Digital Archive. A searchable online collection of photographs, documents, interviews, and research accessible nationwide.
  • Research Partnerships. Collaborations with historians and universities for ongoing documentation and scholarship.
The Third Pillar

Educational Enrichment

A comprehensive academic support program designed to close opportunity gaps for students in rural Alabama, from middle school through college admissions.

  • After-School Tutoring. Homework assistance and subject-specific support, staffed by trained tutors and partner university volunteers.
  • ACT & SAT Prep Workshops. Rigorous test preparation for college-bound students, offered at no cost to participants.
  • FAFSA & College Application Workshops. Hands-on assistance completing financial aid forms, writing essays, and navigating applications.
  • Summer Academic Camps. Themed summer programs in literacy, STEM, and the humanities.
  • Scholarship Workshops. Guidance on identifying, applying for, and winning scholarships.
  • Virtual Learning Lab. A technology-equipped classroom offering virtual college coursework and online tutoring access.
  • HBCU & Dual Enrollment Partnerships. Formal partnerships with HBCUs and regional colleges for dual-enrollment programs.
  • The Ophelia S. Hill Scholarship Fund. A named endowment funding direct scholarships for local college-bound students.
The Second Pillar

Wellness & Physical Education

Health is inseparable from opportunity. Our wellness programs fill a critical gap for the rural communities we serve, from young athletes to senior walkers.

  • Community Fitness Classes. Yoga, aerobics, strength training, and functional fitness for adults of all ages.
  • Youth Sports Enrichment. After-school sports clinics and physical literacy programs in partnership with regional athletic organizations.
  • Senior Fitness Programming. Low-impact movement, balance, and wellness classes designed for older adults.
  • Health Fairs & Screenings. Regular community health events in partnership with local providers, hospitals, and public health agencies.
  • Outdoor Recreation. A dedicated walking trail, community garden, and recreational green space on the restored campus.
  • Gardening & Nutrition. Hands-on nutrition education and community-supported gardening for families.
The Fourth Pillar

Civic & Cultural Events

The restored school will be a true community anchor, hosting the celebrations, debates, and gatherings that make civic life possible in a rural region.

  • Juneteenth Celebration. An annual regional celebration honoring Black heritage with music, food, speakers, and programming.
  • Black History Month Programming. A full calendar of lectures, films, performances, and exhibits every February.
  • Community Forums & Town Halls. Open-mic civic gatherings, policy discussions, and candidate forums.
  • Film Screenings & Lectures. Regular documentary screenings, author talks, and cultural performances.
  • Voter Education Events. Nonpartisan registration drives, ballot education, and civic participation programs.
  • Leadership Development. Workshops for emerging community leaders, youth council programming, and mentorship.
  • Meeting Space. Dedicated rooms made available to local organizations, nonprofits, and civic groups.
  • Emergency Response Hub. The facility will serve as an information and resource site during severe weather or regional emergencies.
